With the seemingly never-ending wave of COVID-19 restrictions affecting all aspects of our everyday lives – from our work and leisure time to even our mental health – 2020 is a year that many would rather forget. But with rapid vaccination programmes being rolled out across the globe, 2021 brings fresh hope of a brighter future away from the tedious cycle of Zoom meetings and online food shopping.
Here, the Templemere PR team discusses what they have learned during this challenging year, and what they are most looking forward to in a (hopefully!) more positive 2021. Starting with my own thoughts…
“If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s about being more appreciative of the small things that I’ve missed doing this year – casual drinks down the pub with friends, being able to experience new sights and sounds on holidays abroad, face-to-face meetings with clients, and so on. Should the situation change for the better in the coming months as predicted, I’m very much looking forward to getting back to some sense of normality in 2021.”
Steven Lambert, Editorial and Digital Content Manager
“Like everyone else, I’ll be glad to see the back of 2020. But I hope in the new year, I’ll be able to carry a few good things with me that I’ve learned during the lockdowns. I hope I’ll remain grateful for small pleasures such as meeting friends over a drink, or travel (anywhere), as well as appreciative of silence, and time to think.”
Clare Williams, CEO & Founder
“I’m looking forward to the general sense of appreciation that 2021 will bring. The shock of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has made us all realise what is important and how easily things we take for granted can be taken away overnight. I now can’t wait for things that at times I used to moan about – balancing a hectic schedule where client requests all hit in the same week, dashing across London to attend different events, and even (dare I say it) jetlag. Fingers crossed that the vaccine rollout can make this happen. Being busy, meeting people and seeing the world – bring on 2021.”
Daisy Rachlin, Client Services Director
“2020 has been the ultimate year of change, not only for the PR industry but for the world. But rather than looking forward to a sense of stability in 2021 (which is unlikely anyway), I’m looking forward to seeing how the industry continues to adapt to challenges and promote meaningful campaigns. I’m hopeful that 2021 will be a happier year for everyone once restrictions can lift, businesses can resume and families can meet again.”
Stella Wright, Account Executive
“Other than the pure fact 2020 will soon be in the past, I am most looking forward to finishing my apprenticeship. I began my apprenticeship in November 2019 and will now finish this in early 2021, leaving me the rest of the year to develop and learn new skills that will help to widen my knowledge at this early stage in my PR career.”
